Life lately is feeling rich, like cake. Thick and rich. I like to talk about Hong Kong summer evenings as if they are thick as cake. And they are. This makes the new feeling I am having about life that much more palpable. Palatable, even. It’s so nice that none of this is to do with money.
My latest painting is about happiness. It is chiefly pink and yellow. You can think of whatever you want when you look at it. Party streamers. Melting ice pops. A sunset’s reflection on the water just before you’re hit by a drunk driver. I painted it on top of glued together cardboard boxes which once contained Purina cat food, St Ives body lotion, and Vinda Golden Deluxe toilet roll. I would call it a triumph.
